Large Projects

Stitcher's Sampler

I found this design in a copy of World of Cross stitch and instantly fell in love with it, knowing that it was one of those things that I MUST stitch, but as I had several projects on the go at the time of issue, it got placed on a backburner for a little while. When I finally did get around to it, I decided that I was going to change some things! The first change I made was to change the border from blue to pink. It got more interesting after that.

I added my own design of a thread cutter, with some inspiration from Agi, I changed the scissor design anused a varigated thread for the center wording. I added a 3D ribbon to the needle cutter, made the skiens of floss 3D, added beads to the pin cushion and replaced patterns for my name and when it was stitched.

Finally I sent the finished picture into World of Cross Stitch who agreed that this was the most 3D version thay have ever seen.

The Stig

I saw this design in one of my magazines, although I can't remember which... And of course I couldn't very well not stitch it. Could I? My first thought was to stitch it for me, but as time went on it became a fathers day gift, as I know my dad likes the Stig just as much as I do. Maybe one day I'll stitch him again for myself.

I chose a light blue background to stitch him on so as to bring out the different shades of cream, but also to complement his character as Stig is a racing driver and seen getting in and out of cars and driving them. Very little else is known about him....Although, some say if you tune your radio to 88.4 you can actually hear his thoughts.

Ellas Birth Announcement

A beautiful  birth announcement for a very good friends beautiful baby girl. It was a real joy to stitch and I would totally reccomend the design to anyone thinking about doing a birth announcement. Sadly...this took six months to make it to Ella, not because I was late stitching it. In fact it was finished before Ella went home, but because Ella lives in Stevenage and I don't, so I kept hoping to take it down, before finally giving in and posting it.

Bedtime Bear

My grandad gave me £5 for my 21st birthday present. He doesn't realize that £5 isn't actually a lot of money these days, but I'm very grateful to him for trying his best. Well I took that fiver and combined it with some of my own money and bought this. Isn't it beautiful? I love CareBears!

Well it was a tricky design as there were so many fractionals, and then there was 7 stitches too little of the white, but I have white thread laying around and managed to finish it pretty quickly!

Hang in there Gramma

This is my biggest stitching achievemet, and even though it doesn't look that grand compared to some, it was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I bought this for my gramma when I heard that she had Cancer. The plan was to stitch it and then hand it to her to make her smile, it was perfect, it was soft and cute and cuddely and the sentiment was so spot on, so I started stitching. I never showed her my progress. And it was hard work too, the design used tweeding and half stitch and long stitch and french knots... I didn't even know about making all your stitches lie in the same direction, although the opposing directions really does give added texture. I can't say it was on purpose though. Then...she died. I lost her and I couldn't even get out of bed, I missed her so much. And she never saw this, and everytime I saw it, I hurt so badly.

But my stitching forum encouraged me to finish it and eventually I did. And it now sits pride place on my wall. I named the cat Audrey, after my gramma and now everytime I see it, I remember her. Not her death, but her life and I am so proud of her and of me for finishing this.

Mums Chinchilla

I bought this design from a woman on ebay who makes them. I had only one person in mind for it. My mum. She has a fair few chinchillas now, I have no idea of the numbers, and her favourite and first is Molly. This looks like Molly used to. Unfortunately, Molly is a very sickly Chinnie due in large to her genetics, but also thanks to Pets at home for getting her pregnant before she was old enough. Now Molly is a little on the skinny side.

I chose to stitch it on Peach aida because...I didn't have any white. But it also makes the colours look so much warmer. I also adapted this design slightly, there's metallic thread in the sparkle of her eyes and I didn't do too much backstitch as Chinchilla fur is not very deffined.
