Friends are like Fairies
I bought this kit a while back with my sister Lynn in mind. She lives all the way in GA, so I don't often get to see her. The saying fits our relationship down to a tee. Plus the fairies suit us as well as we're both very spiritual and believe in things that can't be explained, plus I remember her daughter seeing fairies in the garden once.
This is stitched on Green Aida and is a real joy to work on. The only problem lies on the wings, which I've already had to improvise on. They're worked in blended metallics which is really difficult to work with.
Bobs Emo Donkey Pillow
This was supposed to be a Christmas present for my sister Bob. However, I didn't get it finished on time and she didn't get me anything for Christmas, so I see no real need to rush it. Eeyore is soooo depressing I can only work on him in short spurts anyway.
The plan isto turn him into a Pillow with the wording LIL MISS at the top and BOB at the bottom. But he'll probably be on the WIP pile for a while yet.
Two Cats on a swing
This came as a free gift with one of my magazines. I thought it would make a brilliant present for someone some day...but....For some reason it's not been touched in months...
Caines Birth Sample
Although Caine is now Three years old, I have never made him a birth sampler. This is mostly down to the fact that I was not actually stitching at the time of his birth, but also because I never saw that opportune moment when this would come first. Then his mum fell once again pregnant and while I was making Tadpole a birth Sampler, I saw this as an opportune moment to Make Caine one too.
I started Caines first as this was the easiest to find. It is stitched on the loathsome 14 count white Aida, but it's stitched three over one for the most part, so it's not too bad. Of course, this means that I can't actually use my beloved loop method mind, however the tedium started to get to me and I kept loosing my place, so I had to grid it, and then Tadpole was born and hers got finished and Caines is still sat here... Tip-toe as you pass
This originally started life as a picture poem of Shakespeares fairy ring. But I miscounted and the whole thing won't fit on now, so I decided to just scrap the rest of the poem and leave the one line on, continue with the picture around it, add some more and make it into a door hanger for a little girls bedroom. Of course...I have no little girl...so it's been relegated...
Somebunny - Picked for you
Mabel, a friend of mine, saw this design in one of magazines and instantly thought of me. When I was asked if I would like to give this pattern a home, I of course had to agree and with the most amazing timing, it arrived just as I took my CareBear project home. This meant that I could start Somebunny straight away with no gaps in my stitching. I chose to do somebunny on 16 count peach Aida, mostly because I hate white, but also because I didn't have any white and I like how the peach looks with him. Forever Friends Birthday Stitch
I saw this in an issue of Cross Stitcher and instantly fell in love with it, well when Jayms told me that his mum would love it, I knew that I was going to stitch it for her birthday. I started it in May, but her Birthday wasn't until October, I figured that this would give me plenty of time to complete it. Unfortunatly, Jayms left me several months before her birthday and that left me in somewhat of a predicament, do I give it to her or to someone else? Well now I know it has to go to someone else, but who? I don't know. I'll finish working it when I figure that out.
I decided to stitch this on Linen both because of the ammount of fractional stitches, and because of the overall feel of the piece. This in itself is quite the challange as I had never stitched with linen before and so I had to do a practice piece first. It is 32 count which is quite a challange too, but it was coming along well. The third and final challange was to convert Anchor into DMC...which I did do...but am now buying all the Anchor threads as well as all the DMC threads so that I never have to do that again! Egyptian Cruise
I found this pattern in an issue of Cross stitcher and thought that it looked like it would be easy to do and fun. It was bigger than the two I had previously done, it was far less complicated than the Lickle Ted and it had some stitches that I had never tried before along with the oh so pretty gold thread....This taught me several valuable lessons:
1.
Very simple designs are very dull
2. DMC Light effects is Devil spawn
and should ALWAYS be avoided
3. Backstitch as you go to avoid the
tedium of doing it all at once
Very important!
